5 Reasons Why The Divorce Insurance Is a Must-Watch Rom-Com

The cast and crew of The Divorce Insurance gathered at a press conference in Seoul to give fans a sneak peek into their highly anticipated rom-com series. Director Lee Won-seok, alongside stars Lee Dong-wook, Lee Joo-been, Lee Kwang-soo, and Lee Da-hee, shared insights on the unique premise and characters that make this show stand out. The series revolves around Noh Ki-jun (Lee Dong-wook), a seasoned insurance expert who has been divorced three times and is now working on creating a divorce insurance product. The rom-com series promises to bring laughter, heartfelt moments, and a fresh take on relationships. The Divorce Insurance will be available on Prime Video starting March 31 in Malaysia and over 240 countries and territories worldwide.

1. The ‘Lee’ Effect

It’s not every day that a Korean series brings together a director, writer and main cast all with the same surname. In the case of  The Divorce Insurance, the entire core team shares the last name “Lee.” Director Lee Won-seok jokingly remarked, “I found out later that everyone is a Lee. I thought Lee Dong-wook might not be his birth name–but it is!” Lee Joo-been added, “Even the title of our series also starts with Lee [in Korean]!” She also said, “When else would I be able to work alongside such great actors? I was happy for the opportunity.” The cast shared how this unusual coincidence brought a sense of camaraderie and fun to the set. Lee Da-hee expressed her excitement, saying, “I was cast a bit later, and I really wanted to act with Dong-wook, Joo-been, and Kwang-soo.” It’ll be a treat to see the Lee dream team in action once the series premieres.

2.  A Refreshingly Unique Premise

Director Lee Won-seok introduced the series by emphasizing its originality, “The series is set in an insurance company and in order to prevent others from experiencing the same pain they have gone through, they work to create a divorce insurance product. It’s conceptual and a unique world.” The director further explained that The Divorce Insurance isn’t just about the world we know but takes viewers into a slightly altered reality, where vibrant colors and quirky storytelling brings the series to life. “It’s like milk tea,” said Lee Won-seok.  Lee Da-hee shared that “the director has always had this wit” and “I’m sure the director’s unique color will be expressed in the series.” The dynamic characters and their emotional journeys promise a delightful and unpredictable ride.

3. Unstoppable Chemistry

Chemistry is crucial for any rom-com, and The Divorce Insurance delivers this in spades. The series marks Lee Dong-wook’s return to the rom-com genre. Lee Dong-wook shared, “It’s been about six to seven years since my last rom-com. It was fun having great witty banter with my colleagues.” Lee Kwang-soo chimed in, “The atmosphere on set was great. We had a lot of discussions on set before filming and that really helped. Everyone received all my ad-libs really well. It was so fun and it felt like I was coming to the set to have fun.” Lee Da-hee added, “I have a lot of scenes with Lee Kwang-soo in the beginning, and despite it being about seven years since we saw each other, it was really comfortable. I felt that our chemistry was natural.”

4. Endless Laughter

Though the show centers on the serious topic of divorce, The Divorce Insurance is anything but heavy. The cast teased about how fun the series will be, all the great ad-libs and impromptu humor they had during filming. Lee Joo-been revealed, “There were a lot of ad-libs on set, they were so fun that you’d think they were prepared beforehand. While filming, I thought that this series will be really fun.” Lee Kwang-soo added, “Lee Dong-wook and I kept making a series of ad-libs. It felt almost like a series within the series!” Lee Da-hee further praised her co-stars, saying, “They have an ajusshi series. Their back and forth ad-libs are really amazing.” She added that other supporting actors like Kim Won-hae and Chu So-jung also portray really fun characters with their stories being portrayed in an entertaining way.
