aespa will return with a new album in May as SM Entertainment confirms the girl group is preparing for a comeback while lining up a busy slate of activities for 2026.
On Mar. 16, Korean media reported that aespa is targeting a May release, citing an official from SM Entertainment who said the group is currently working on their next comeback.
The representative shared that aespa is preparing for a return in May and asked fans to look forward to their new music. While the exact date and album format have not yet been revealed, the statement confirms that the four-member group will join the crowded spring comeback lineup, according to Soompi.
The May comeback comes after a strong run in 2025, during which aespa remained active with multiple releases and performances. At the 2025 MAMA Awards, leader Karina told fans during the group's acceptance speech that aespa planned to release a full album in 2026, hinting early at bigger projects for the year.
She promised that the members would work hard on the album and asked fans to give it lots of love, raising expectations for their next major release. Fans have since been watching SM Entertainment's previews and schedules for signs of the group's next steps.
SM's 2026 plans for aespa extend beyond the comeback, with the group also set to step up its global presence. In Japan, aespa will hold their first dome tour, "2026 aespa LIVE TOUR – SYNK : aeXIS LINE – in JAPAN [SPECIAL EDITION DOME TOUR]," starting in April, marking a new milestone in their live performances, WeVerse reported.
Fan club events and promotions, including ticket benefits and membership campaigns, have already been announced around the tour, signaling an intensive year of activities.
Industry watchers note that May has been a significant month in aespa's career, with several past successful releases arriving during this period, and their upcoming album is expected to build on that track record.
With a confirmed spring comeback, a planned full album within the year, and a large-scale tour, aespa appears set to focus heavily on promotions throughout 2026, further solidifying their position as one of SM Entertainment's leading girl groups, as per allkpop.
