aespa's fans are claiming that the quartet's new song "Whiplash" has already surpassed their previous hit, "Supernova."
On October 21, aespa made their much-anticipated comeback with their fifth mini-album, "Whiplash." On the same day, its titular lead track's official music video was also released.
The song is an EDM-based dance track that features strong, fast-paced bass and house beats. Its lyrics then depict the four-member group's confident charm, defying standards and criteria as well as changing landscapes wherever they go.
This song came after its "iron taste" concept with its cyberpunk hit "Supernova," released in May.
Surprisingly, the girl group shied away from this concept and tried the techno genre for the first time since debut.
Despite this big leap, aespa is showing good responses for this song, and seeing the rave reviews of music fans and their fandom MYs, it is expected that "Whiplash" will also take over the second half of this year.
In Korean online communities, K-Netz praised the hitmakers' solid live skills, visuals, as well as powerful performance with another strong and addictive song.
Some also claimed that "Whiplash" is their best release so far, surpassing "Supernova," the same song that ranked No. 1 on MelOn Hot 100.
Here are some of the comments:
- "No, it seems like aespa is putting out better songs as time goes on. They're better than 'Supernova'."
- "The song is so good?! There's no need to say anything about the MV, the members' visuals, and the performance. This is almost the first time I've properly listened to an aespa song, but I like it so much that I'm playing the music video for the 7th time right now."
- "This is so cool. I think they're the most iconic among our country's idol groups."
- "I like it better than 'Supernova."
- "The music video is sensational."
