In 2022, BTS‘s RM met his idol, American musician, singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer, and fashion designer Pharrell Williams for Rolling Stone‘s Musicians on Musicians. It included a photoshoot and interview.
At the time, Pharrell revealed they had collaborated on a song to be featured on his album. He described it as “amazing.”
Well, my project, it’s called . . . it’s [under] my name, and the title of the album is Phriends. It’s the volume one. You guys [BTS] are on there, obviously. And I’m actually talking about this way more than I’m supposed to, but it’s a song from my album that [BTS] sang and it’s amazing, and I’m super grateful.

Two years later, ARMYs are still wondering what happened to this collaboration. So, recently an ARMY, who had gone to the cinema and saw a trailer for Pharrell’s upcoming Lego biopic, wondered about the collab, as the trailer teased new music.
So my question is, will we finally be getting that mythical RM x Pharrell collab that was teased forever ago?

Pharrell revealed he scrapped the original album plan. While he liked the song, he felt the overall project “wasn’t right.” Yet, he encouraged fans to “ask RM” about the song.
You have to ask RM. What I was gonna put it out on, I changed gears and ended up doing something completely different. So all the music that I have from all the different collaborations for that project are there. The songs were great, but the project itself, I felt like wasn’t right.

So, although the collaboration was originally for Pharrell’s album, it appears he’s putting the ball in RM’s court to decide whether or not we’ll get the song released.
