While the fans of most K-Pop groups fear the infamous “seven-year curse,” a fourth-generation girl group that went extremely viral in 2021 is disbanding within just five years of debuting.

Weekly, the six-member girl group, best known for their viral song “After School,” is confirmed to be disbanding. On February 26, KST, IST Entertainment announced that it had mutually agreed to terminate its exclusive contract with the group. According to the company’s statement, all the members have decided to part ways with the agency, marking the end of their five-year career as Weekly.

The news has left fans utterly shocked. With “After School,” Weekly was quickly shot into prominence and won six rookie awards. Despite a promising future, the group was not able to replicate the success of “After School” with their follow-up releases. Nevertheless, they did earn a dedicated fanbase rooting for their success, but now these fans are left to bid their favorite artists a premature goodbye.
