On November 10, the “2024 MTV EMAs” took place in Manchester, England, and was a history-making night for Asian groups. K-Pop girl group LE SSERAFIM became the first K-Pop girl group to have a solo performance at the event and took home the award for “Best Push.”

While it was a decorated night for K-Pop idols and groups, a P-Pop group also made major history.

Girl group BINI were announced as the winners of the “Best Asia Act,” beating out the other nominees, which consisted of ILLIT, Indonesia’s Mahalini, Malaysia‘s Masdo, and Japan‘s Sakurazaka46.

BINI debuted in 2021 and have been on a steady rise to international stardom, being named by both The Grammys and Teen Vogue as a girl group to watch.

BINI is the first from the Philippines to win the award, among other accolades, and many online celebrated this fact.

I just realized that @BINI_ph is not only the first Filipino act to win the @mtvema Best Asia Act, but also the first Southeast Asian act AND the first female group to win the award! 😱 What an incredible milestone for P-pop and women in music!

However, some, likely unaware of the group, questioned their win.

In particular, some accused fans of the group of cheating in order to secure the win for BINI.

you let them win with their bot votes?pic.twitter.com/797OD2FEjl https://t.co/oeBscHyqPQ

Fans quickly came to the group’s defense, citing the power of Filipino fans, as well as BINI’s ever growing popularity. BINI

are we forgetting that filipinos or sea people used to be the backbone of kpop voting and streaming back in the day? noww that we finally have our own group to support, of course we’re going to go all in and give it our full backing https://t.co/adIkiNJJW0
