BLACKPINK member Jennie has become the center of an online debate after her bold fashion choices during her headline performance at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, Spain.
On July 9, Jennie took the stage as the first K-pop idol to headline the major music festival, delivering a nearly hour-long performance featuring songs from her solo era and several unreleased tracks. While many fans praised her stage presence and visuals, her outfit also sparked strong reactions online.
For the performance, Jennie wore several eye-catching looks, including a lilac-and-gold outfit and a gold corset-style top paired with gold shorts and a chunky belt, Koreaboo reported.
The fashion choices quickly went viral, with fans celebrating her confidence and style. However, some online commenters criticized the amount of skin shown and made personal remarks about her appearance. Some comments focused on her body rather than her performance, leading many fans to call out what they described as unfair bodyshaming.
BLACKPINK's Jennie Shares Unreleased Songs
Supporters defended Jennie's right to choose her own stage outfits and argued that artists should be able to express themselves through fashion.
Many also praised her agency, ODD ATELIER, for creating a high-quality performance despite being a smaller company compared with larger entertainment agencies.
The Madrid appearance came shortly after another major festival performance, where Jennie continued building excitement for her upcoming music. On July 4, she headlined the final night of the Open'er Festival in Gdynia, Poland, performing a 17-song set that included three unreleased songs.
According to Billboard, during the Open'er Festival stage, Jennie performed tracks such as "Lock It Down," "Heaven," and "Less Than A Lover." Before singing "Less Than A Lover," she shared that the song was inspired by summer and expressed her excitement about releasing new music.
"It feels really special to share new music with this many people," Jennie said. "I really can't wait to share this new music with you soon."
Her recent festival performances have added to her growing solo achievements. Jennie's solo album "Ruby" achieved major success, while her collaborations with artists including Tame Impala and The Weeknd have expanded her global presence.
