KISS OF LIFE have been the subject of criticism online following Julie’s birthday livestream, during which the group depicted racist stereotypes and were accused of cultural appropriation. This resulted in an apology from their agency and, most recently, a handwritten one from KISS OF LIFE, which were both met with mixed reactions.

KISS OF LIFE’s Personal Apology Sparks Heated Mixed Reactions

Many netizens felt that the apology was not specific enough, and did not truly acknowledge the groups that were appropriated from.

In a post shared on X, Fatou shared similar thoughts in a tweet that did not mention KISS OF LIFE directly, but is assumed to be about the controversy. In her message, Fatou has a firm stance, calling out those who act “clueless” after their actions.

If u wanna apologize to us black people, make sure you address us. Don’t use everything we’ve created , run with it, and then try and acting clueless. We’ve gone through this circus before, and I hope that it’s the last one so please do the right thing. It’s not gonna kill you😁

She also offered the advice of doing research to better understand and show respect.

Gonna say this before I sleep, know that you would be nothing without black😎/afro music so please respect the people behind it and the culture, and if you really want to understand it do some research ( it’s really fun actually) you’ll fall more in love with it 😁

Some have found issue with Fatou’s message, accusing of her misspeaking on the situation as someone who is not African-American specifically, as much of the thought of Hip-hop culture originated with Black people in America or just didn’t approve of the message.

girl you are from senagal😭😭 WE created nothing they made a mockery out of AAs… not you guys #noshade https://t.co/NaBC8OXTRg

Others felt that Fatou’s place as a Black K-Pop idol, along with cultural appropriation occurring with many parts of Black culture, she was entirely right in her comments.

a black woman literally in the industry speaking up on her culture being disrespected.. mind you she has met and interacted with natty before so… and yall are ganging up on her cause she won’t stand for bs ?
