BTS’s Jin and well-known TV star Baek Jong Won’s joint venture is facing trouble after being accused of breaking country-of-origin labeling rules. JINI’s Lamp, a company that produces alcoholic beverages, is now under review by government authorities.

According to TenAsia, an individual recently filed a complaint with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, alleging that JINI’s Lamp mislabeled the ingredients in its IGIN highball drinks. The flavors in question are watermelon and plum, and the complaint suggests that the company’s labeling may mislead consumers about whether the ingredients are sourced domestically or overseas.

The National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service has since launched an investigation through its Yesan office. Officials explained that if violations are confirmed, the case could move forward to further inquiry, referral, and even administrative penalties.
If violations are found after review, the matter will proceed to investigation and possible referral. Depending on the findings, administrative measures could also be taken. We will examine this thoroughly from start to finish.

On the product labels, JINI’s Lamp reportedly listed the actual ingredient sources correctly — with watermelon concentrate from the United States and plum concentrate from Chile. However, a section of the company’s website mistakenly described the origins as domestic. This inconsistency seemingly raised concerns that buyers could believe the drinks were made entirely from Korean-grown produce.

Under current law, beverage and food products can only be labeled as “Korean” if every ingredient, aside from water, sugar, and additives, is sourced locally. According to TenAsia, any false or misleading labeling can result in legal consequences, including prison terms of up to seven years or fines reaching ₩100 million KRW (about $71,900 USD).

JINI’s Lamp was established in December 2024 with Jin and Baek Jong Won as co-founders. The company oversees production of the IGIN line, while Baek’s affiliated distributor Yesandoga handles its sales.
