BTS members RM and V have officially completed their mandatory military service on Tuesday, which comes ahead of their group's "Festa" event.
The two artists were discharged after serving 18 months in the Korean Army, having enlisted together on December 11, 2023. RM, whose real name is Kim Namjoon, served as part of the 15th Infantry Division's military band, while V, born Kim Taehyung, completed his service with the Special Task Force under the Army's 2nd Corps Military Police. The discharge ceremony took place at the Sports Park in Sinbuk-eup, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, where both members met with fans and media.
V made an emotional statement during the event, expressing his eagerness to return to performing.
"After coming to the military, I spent time thinking and getting my body and mind back together. I want to run to ARMY as soon as possible. I want to tell them that I am truly grateful for waiting," he said. V added that fans should "wait just a little longer and I will return with a wonderful stage."
RM made a memorable exit from his base, playing the saxophone in what fans described as an "absolute style return". The leader reflected on his military experience, noting that while there were "painful and difficult times," he felt grateful for those who defended the country during their absence.
The discharge comes just three days before BTS Festa 2025, the group's 12th debut anniversary celebration scheduled for June 13-14 at KINTEX 2 Exhibition Halls in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. The two-day event will feature approximately 20 booths, including photo zones, voice message stations from members, trophy displays, and merchandise sales.
RM and V join Jin and J-Hope, who were previously discharged in 2024, bringing the count to four members who have completed their service. The remaining members will follow shortly, with Jungkook and Jimin set for discharge on June 11, and Suga completing his alternative service on June 21.
The timing of these discharges positions BTS perfectly for their anniversary celebration, with speculation growing about potential group activities during Festa 2025. While BigHit Music has not confirmed member appearances at the offline event, their military discharges and its proximity to the celebration have heightened fan anticipation for the group's long-awaited reunion.
