BTS V’s Military Enlistment “Torture” Story Breaks Fans’ Hearts

The story has sparked emotional reactions from fans.

BTS’s ongoing promotional tour for their new album Arirang and single “SWIM” has made it possible for fans to hear a lot of stories from the boy group’s time away from the limelight.

During their hiatus, the seven members were famously enlisted in the military, and V’s recently revealed story from his time in the Army has sparked heartbreak among fans.

The singer shared that while he enjoyed his time serving the country, at times it felt like “torture” for one big reason…

He couldn’t perform.

Fairy Jaehyung: “When you went to the military after that, were you anxious? Or did you think of it as time just for yourself?

V: I think I needed that time to become who I am today.

Fairy Jaehyung: Were you a bit anxious too?

V: Uh no! Because the only thing I was anxious about was wanting to be on stage but not being able to. Back then, I was like, ‘I really want to perform right now but I can’t in this situation.’  Because I’d be dreaming about performing on stage and then I’d open my eyes… and see guys wrestling over there… and these really sweaty guys in front of me ‘Sergeant Kim Taehyung…? You need to wake up.’ That was really torture. Other than that, I was fine. I just had a lot of fun hanging out with them!”

The story has sparked emotional reactions from fans. Many have praised his love for performing, while others said “it broke their hearts” to hear V speak this way about his time in the military.
