Take just a moment and think back to ancient times, where the year is 2022 and IVE had just debuted months ago. Wonyoung was still at the front of everybody’s minds back then due to coming off IZ*ONE‘s success, and she found herself in a big “scandal” because … wait for it, she ate a strawberry with two hands on The Manager. Yes, that is a thing that happened, and while international fans like to pretend it’s only Korean netizens who are insane, they were the ones that started calling her a “pick me”* over it.
*”Pick me” has lost all meaning, honestly. Now it’s just used for like whenever a woman does something another woman doesn’t like.
Anyway, thinking of that viral mess, I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw in Wonyoung most recent Instagram post that she had a picture of her eating a strawberry (WITH ONE HAND) while posing for the camera and giving the audience a wink. Given her general attitude to everything, I’m taking that as a tongue-in-cheek ‘fuck you’ to people who blew up that “scandal”, as it’s the most entertaining lore option.
Also, as I’ve said before, Wonyoung just comes off built for this idol shit, or at least the public persona she’s crafted has been immaculate, as she showed in a recent Vogue Korea interview with some viral answers.
Vogue: What have been the best and worst parts of living in the ‘Jang Wonyoung era’?
Wonyoung: Since I was young, I’ve always believed that ‘Jang Wonyoung is Jang Wonyoung.’ I’m really happy that things have turned out as I imagined. I have no regrets.
Vogue: Have you ever failed?
Wonyoung: No, I’m still young.
Also, there was this part, where I always felt like topically “ATTITUDE” seemed like “Lucky Vicky” the song, so it makes sense that she answers it as if it was about her.
Vogue: In ‘ATTITUDE,’ there’s a lyric that says ‘When fate plays a trick, I’ve got to roll with it, what can I do?’ If fate really did play a trick on you, what would you do?
Wonyoung: Since you can’t escape fate by running from it, I believe that accepting and overcoming it will bring good things in the end. You just have to live through it. And if something needs to change along the way, then of course, you have to change it.
It happened.
Jang Wonyoung's "Lucky Vicky" effectively reframing events in life is the K-pop version of Jocko Willink's "Good". In this essay, I shall…

Anyway, is all of this mostly just an excuse to post about how good she looks in her recent Instagram posts? Yes.
