A murder, a missing memory, and one haunting puzzle piece — welcome to your next K-drama obsession.

The cast of Disney+’s upcoming mystery thriller Nine Puzzles stepped into the spotlight on May 14 at a press conference in Seoul, giving fans a sneak peek into the dark, twisted world that’s about to unfold starting May 21. With Kim Da-mi, Son Suk-ku, Kim Sung-kyun, Hyun Bong-sik, and director Yoon Jong-bin in attendance, the press conference delivered exactly what we were hoping for — gripping teases, unexpected cameos, and heartwarming behind-the-scenes chemistry that’ll make you hit “play” the moment it drops.

Star-Studded Cast? You Bet.

Director Yoon shared that the unique narrative structure — where “each episode has its own main character” — required an ensemble of charismatic performers. “To create unforgettable characters, I pulled strings and had meals with acquaintances to ask if they would be interested in making an appearance,” he revealed with a smile. His efforts resulted in a star-studded line-up of cameo appearances by Park Sung-woong, Lee Sung-min, Hwang Jung-min, Lee Hee-joon, and Ji Jin-hee — the latter reportedly joining the cast at the request of his good friend Son Suk-ku.

The On-Screen Chemistry Is Real

Even though it’s their first time working together, Kim Da-mi and Son Suk-ku hit it off instantly.

Suk-ku immediately helped me feel at ease,” Da-mi said. “We had a lot of deep talks about the script and how to bring our characters to life. He supported me so much on set — I was really grateful.”

The feeling’s mutual.

Ena is a genius character — and I realized Dami is kind of a genius too,” Suk-ku smiled. “Even with our age gap, we had intense conversations about how to show the changing dynamics between our characters — from suspicion to trust and back again. I felt so comfortable working with her. We really leaned on each other.”

About Nine Puzzles

At the heart of Nine Puzzles is Yoon Ena, played by Kim Da-mi, a criminal profiler with a terrifying past. Ten years ago, she came home to find her uncle murdered — and herself standing at the scene with zero memory of what happened. All that was left? A single puzzle piece.

Since then, Ena has spent her life chasing the truth. And now, she’s working alongside the very detective who once suspected her — Kim Hansaem, played by Son Suk-ku. But just as things begin to settle, another puzzle piece appears… and the murders begin again.

Chills. Already.

With its brooding atmosphere, layered characters, and a plot that promises twists at every turn, Nine Puzzles is shaping up to be a standout entry in the growing catalog of high-quality Korean thrillers on Disney+. The drama not only explores the dark corridors of memory and trauma but also the complexities of trust, justice, and redemption.

Nine Puzzles premieres May 21 on Disney+, with new episodes released weekly. The series will run for a total of 11 episodes.
