KG announced her plans personally on her Instagram, and netizens discovered the full legal document detailing her claims against JYP shortly after. In the 77-page document, KG revealed the alleged treatment she and the other members faced, which included diet control, verbal and mental abuse, as well as the harsh conditions they trained under.

These claims also included the events that led to a member attempting to take her life.

JYP Entertainment has responded to KG’s allegations, and the former VCHA member has also shared a response. Netizens have also weighed in on the ongoing case, with many expressing shock over the claims.

Recently, a netizen gave an additional insight into the case using their background in law.

In the Reddit community /kpop_uncensored, a user who identified themselves as a lawyer shared their thoughts on the case.  Their first conclusion included the detail that KG’s complaints were verified, which pointed to it not being a “cash grab” due to JYP having to deny or admit the 140+ complaints included.

99% of lawsuits are unverified complaints. This one is verified. What is the difference? Unverified complaints have allegations that are not made under penalty of perjury and so a defendant can answer with a general, boilerplate denial of claims, while verified complaints’ allegations are reasonably believed to be true by the alleger under penalty of perjury, so EACH paragraph must be admitted or denied, in whole or part, with every non-admission requiring an explanation. There are 147 paragraphs in this lawsuit that JYPE must admit or deny, which is a ginormous pain in the ass. This indicates at the very least that KG is not just making shit up for a cash grab.

The user went through each type of claim, with the one regarding the abuse allegations having an answer that might surprise the average fan. According to the OP, the claims of abuse may not legally stick, as JYP will likely argue that she was not forced to remain in the situation or to become an idol.

I do not think there is much of a chance that the child neglect/endangerment causes of action legally stick. JYPE will probably successfully argue nobody affirmatively forced her to do anything and that nobody is entitled to become an idol. Nobody is entitled to become an idol so if the rule is you need 1,000 dance classes to debut, then rules are rules, doesn’t matter if it is stupid so long as it’s not illegal.

However, OP states that KG sharing the abuses may have been done for a number of reasons outside of the legal implications, including garnering sympathy for the company’s alleged actions, as well as helping show why she wanted out of the contract.

With the allegations being as serious as they are, only time will tell the legal and social ramifications JYP will face over this case.
