Get to know more about LUNEDI and the journey behind her first solo release.
LUNEDI is stepping into a new chapter of her artistry with confidence, clarity, and a deeply personal voice. A South Korean singer and rapper best known as the main vocalist of Weeekly, she has long been recognized for her powerful vocals and emotional delivery. Now, as LUNEDI, she begins a solo journey that reflects not just her growth as a performer, but her evolution as an individual artist ready to tell her story on her own terms.
Her solo debut single, “Face Myself,” released on December 7, 2025, marks a turning point—one rooted in introspection, honesty, and self-discovery. The track invites listeners into her inner world, offering a sound and message that feel both intimate and empowering. Rather than looking outward, LUNEDI turns inward, embracing vulnerability as strength and using music as a mirror to reflect her truest self.

In our exclusive interview, LUNEDI opens up about the meaning behind her solo debut, the creative process that shaped “Face Myself,” and what this new era represents for her as an artist. From personal growth to future aspirations, she shares candid insights into the journey that led her here—and where she hopes to go next.
HELLOKPOP: Welcome, LUNEDI! Congratulations on your solo debut with “Face Myself.” How does it feel to finally introduce yourself to the world under this new name?
LUNEDI: Hi, this is LUNEDI. Honestly, it still feels a little unreal. Just a few months ago, I was sitting by myself, going through endless name ideas. So being able to finally introduce myself to the world as LUNEDI feels really special. I’ve done a lot of interviews before, but I don’t think I’ve ever felt this excited. Introducing myself as part of Weeekly and as Monday is still familiar, but thanks to HelloKpop, I feel like I’ve taken my first real step as LUNEDI. I’m excited to be here—thank you.
HKP: The title “Face Myself” suggests honesty and reflection. What inspired you to choose this as the starting point for your solo journey?
LUNEDI: Since this is my first release as a solo artist, I spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of story I wanted to tell. After finishing my group activities, the first thing I really struggled with was self-reflection. I started questioning everything—from how I want to live my life to what kind of music I should make, and even whether I truly love music. Going back to those basic questions made me realize I hadn’t really faced myself before. I’ve always wanted to make music that feels honest and personal, so I decided to turn those thoughts and doubts into my starting point.
HKP: How did working on this release differ from past projects in terms of decision-making and having ownership over your music?
LUNEDI: This project felt completely different from anything I’ve done before. The biggest difference was how involved I was in every step. In the past, I mostly focused on following a set plan. But with FACE MYSELF, everything—from deciding to release the album to the final details—was in my hands. It was my first real chance to tell my own story through music, and that alone made it a totally new experience. It was definitely challenging, but it also pushed me to grow the most as an artist.
HKP: As a soloist, how did you approach shaping the mood, sound, and message of “Face Myself”?
LUNEDI: When I started working on the song, I already knew the message I wanted to share. It was about the struggles I’ve been through over the past year and how I found my way through them. I didn’t want the song to feel too heavy, so I focused more on encouragement and reassurance. I wanted it to feel like someone genuinely cheering you on. Sound-wise, my goal was to create something powerful that really shows my vocals. After a lot of trial and error with my collaborators, we landed on the bold, intense sound you hear in FACE MYSELF.
HKP: Vocally and emotionally, was there anything you challenged yourself to try for the first time on this song?
LUNEDI: Honestly, everything about this song felt like a challenge. But vocally, this was on another level. My mixed voice comfortably reaches up to A5, and my chest voice is supported up to C#5. Instead of placing the high notes in the bridge, as most songs do, this track pushes my range from the chorus onward. At first, I thought, “There’s no way I can sing this live.” But since I made the song myself, I had no choice but to keep practicing. I worked on it more than any song I’ve done since my trainee days. Eventually, I found a new way to approach those notes, and now I can confidently perform them live. This song helped me push my limits and improve my vocal performance.

HKP: What did preparing for your solo debut teach you about yourself that you didn’t expect to learn?
LUNEDI: I learned that I’m way more of an ISFP than I thought. My MBTI used to change a lot, but this one feels pretty permanent now.
HKP: When you listen to “Face Myself” now, which part of the song feels the most true to who you are today?
LUNEDI: This part really hits home for me:
“Give it all, I feel my best
I will do it on my way
Paint my own life by myself”
When I wrote those lyrics, they were more like a wish. But now, after releasing FACE MYSELF, I feel like I’m actually living them—finding happiness in my own way and creating my own path.
HKP: What role did self-trust play in making creative decisions throughout this debut process?
LUNEDI: To be honest, I didn’t have much self-trust at the beginning. Even up until the day my name was revealed, I kept asking myself, “Is this really right?” And even on release day, I wondered, “Did I make the right choice?” But I eventually realized that self-distrust, especially when your self-esteem is already low, only eats away at you. In a way, creating this song helped me learn how to trust myself. Working on this project slowly helped me change my mindset from “What if this goes wrong?” to “Whatever happens, I’ll be okay.” I started trusting LUNEDI more than anyone else. This debut didn’t just require self-trust—it helped me build it.
HKP: How much of LUNEDI’s personal story do you feel comfortable sharing through music, and how do you decide where to draw that line?
LUNEDI: This is actually my first time writing so directly about my own story, so I’m still figuring out where that line is. But my life motto has always been honesty. As long as it doesn’t cross into discomfort, I want to continue blending my personal experiences into more universal, relatable stories and share them through music.
HKP: When listeners hear “Face Myself,” what do you hope they feel or connect with in their own lives?
LUNEDI: I have one clear hope. I want this song to reach anyone who is struggling to face themselves and deliver a message of encouragement. For those who doubt themselves or feel their confidence fading, I hope this song can say, “It’s your time now—you’re about to shine,” and give them the strength to stand back up again.
HKP: How do you hope listeners come to understand LUNEDI as an artist after hearing your solo debut for the first time?
LUNEDI: I hope people see me as an artist with a lot more to show. I’ve been singing for almost ten years now, and that time has helped me become really flexible with different genres. I don’t want to be limited to one sound. I want to keep exploring and surprising people, so I hope listeners stay curious about what’s coming next.
HKP: What’s one behind-the-scenes moment from preparing your solo debut that fans might be surprised to hear about?
LUNEDI: My fans probably won’t be that surprised, since they know me so well—but I actually recorded the high-note ad-libs in the bridge in just two takes.
HKP: After completing “Face Myself,” what do you feel most confident about as a solo artist moving forward?
My vocals, for sure. It’s something I’m very hard on myself about, but also something I take a lot of pride in. This song was technically really challenging, and getting through it gave me a big confidence boost.
HKP: Are there themes, sounds, or emotions you’re especially excited to explore in future releases under the name LUNEDI?
I love so many genres—rock ballads, pop ballads, jazz—so I’m excited to dive into all of them and show more sides of myself through future releases. I also love performing, especially on stages that involve dancing, so I’d really like to create more opportunities to perform with choreography too.
HKP: Lastly, please leave a message for fans who are reading this interview.
LUNEDI: Hi everyone! It feels like it’s been a while since I last talked to you through an interview. I don’t usually get to share this much about an album, so I hope you enjoyed it. I love music, but more than anything, I love my fans and being on stage with you. I can’t wait to meet you again soon. Thank you for always being there for me. I love you, and I miss you so much.
