A fansite of ITZY Yuna‘s has recently come under fire. They were allegedly exposed as a 40-year-old man after they gave Yuna a dishwashing set to dress up in for photo time during a fansign. Although they have since deleted the photos and post, they were caught liking comments that talked about Yuna’s “wifey vibes.”
Other fans called the fansite out for sexism. Not only that, but fans discovered that the fansite had also insulted Yeji. Although their posts have been deleted, fans who were aware of the matter recounted it for other fans. The name Yeji in Korean sounds similar to an insult in Chinese. They also made other comments about Yeji’s looks.
The fansite has since apologized for their actions.
I’m sorry to have caused this round of controversy. There were parts I were unable to deeply consider with my fansigh item, and I need to apologize and I should be more careful [in the future]. Many fans prepare cute hair accessories, dolls, etc, for fansign items, and so I didn’t know that my props would cause such a reaction. It was inconsiderate of me. I’m sorry. In the future, I will examine my items carefully. Thank you.
I also apologize sincerely for what I said about Yeji. It was inappropriate and rude. When I said those things, I had been chatting with a friend in a group chat, and their ID was “Hwang Yeji’s Boyfriend,” and so I was not careful with my speech, and it was inappropriate of me to have made such jokes. I’m really sorry.
I have realized my mistake. I am so sorry to the members, and I’m sorry for having affected them. In the future, I will be careful with my words and actions and respect the members. I’ll make sure nothing like this happens again. I’m really sorry!
