i-dle’s Miyeon Was Shunned By Her Members… But BLACKPINK’s Lisa Intervened 

i-dle‘s Miyeon recently opened up about the rocky start she had with her group members — and how BLACKPINK’s Lisa played a quiet but meaningful role during that time.

During the May 17 episode of MBC’s Omniscient Interfering View, the i-dle members sat down together to reflect on their trainee days and early debut years. While the group is now known for their close bond and teamwork, Miyeon revealed that it wasn’t always that way behind the scenes.

Leader Soyeon recalled that Miyeon, who joined the company later than the others, was met with suspicion. Miyeon admitted that the members weren’t warm to her and the rest swiftly agreed.

Soyeon: It felt like she was pushing out a vocal friend who was already on our team, so we were on guard around her.

Miyeon: Honestly, you guys gave me a hard time at first.

Minnie and Yuqi admitted they were particularly cold. Minnie explained that she felt threatened because she had been the main vocal and oldest member at the time.

Yeah, I wasn’t nice. I was a total old-school sunbae. I was the main vocalist and the oldest at the time, and then suddenly someone the same age as me joined, and she was also a main vocalist.

Miyeon, who had trained for five years at YG Entertainment before joining Cube, remembered being surprised at the strict rules. Only debut team members were allowed to use electronics, but she pushed back and managed to get permission to use a laptop — something other trainees had been denied for years. That move stirred resentment: “They were like, ‘How can she use a laptop when she just got here?’”

Yuqi added that Miyeon’s fashion made her stand out, too.

As Cube trainees, we were only allowed to wear leggings, sneakers, and t-shirts, we weren’t supposed to dress up at all. But then Miyeon showed up in Dr. Martens and a leather jacket — she looked like a full-on celebrity from day one!

What Miyeon didn’t know was that Lisa from BLACKPINK had stepped in behind the scenes. Minnie revealed for the first time that Lisa had actually messaged her about Miyeon and made a special request.

When Miyeon joined Cube, I actually got a message from Lisa. She said, ‘Minnie, my friend is joining your company, please take good care of her.’

The news shocked Miyeon who had no idea about the message. The i-dle star then admitted that “just like Lisa asked” Minnie took good care of her since then.

Despite the rough beginning, the members laughed together as they recalled those days, showing just how far they’ve come as a group.
