IU may be widely known as Korea's Little Sister for her acting and musical accomplishments but many fans know that she also possesses a heart of gold.
The Palette singer is making the rounds on the Internet once again for generous donations of kimchi to the Korean Unwed Mothers Association, gifting each member over 20 pounds of side dish as well as 50 million won (about $35,000) to the Korean Association of Incurable Diseases in Children.
Fans noted that since her role in Broker, a Korean drama about abandoned babies and new mothers, the actress has amped up her noblesse oblige.
IU donated 50 million won (about $35,000) each to The Happiness Foundation, Korean Unwed Mothers Families Association, and Korean Foundation for Support of the Senior Citizen in Need, as well as 100 million won (about $70,000) to the Heart To Heart Foundation as part of her annual birthday tradition of giving last May.
IU has been praised for her philanthropic contributions in the past, with total contributions to charities and causes amounting to over 6 billion won (over $4 million).
The singer has financed scholarships to Dongduk Girls' High School, her alma mater, and sent donations to Green Umbrella Children's Foundation -- a group that supports low-income and vulnerable groups -- as well as the Korean Disabled Welfare Facilities Association, the Korean Senior Welfare Association, and the Korean Unwed Mothers Association.
Last May, the singer also donated 100 million won (about $70,000) to ChildFund Korea, which aids children ridden by poverty and disease in developing countries, for Children's Day in South Korea.
IU also donated 200 million won (about $140,000) to charities in September 2022 to mark the 14th anniversary of her career debut, as well as contributed 100 million won (about $70,000) towards aid efforts for the 2022 South Korea floods.
