IVE's 'Supernova Love' MV Criticized for Its Quality: 'It Looks Cheap'

2 weeks ago 6

Aside from the supposed lack of promotions from Starship Entertainment, IVE's new English song and music video faced criticism for having low quality.

On November 8, Starship Entertainment made a surprise release of the official sound source and music video of IVE's new song, "Supernova Love." An extended mix was also dropped, in collaboration with the French DJ and record producer, David Guetta.

The group initially teased their latest single in September during their "Show What I Have" tour. At the time, fans expressed their delight with the unreleased song and hoped that the team would officially put it out in the music market.

After about two months, the sextet finally heard its fandom, DIVEs' wish, and officially unveiled the song, with a bonus that it also featured David Guetta, a well-known international artist.

Indeed, the track ate and didn't disappoint as the six members flaunted lovely vocals that matched their concept very well, on top of a solid BGM. Surprisingly, the track surpassed the 3-minute length as well, deviating from the trending 2-minute songs in K-pop, which earned applause from supporters.

However, DIVEs couldn't be fully happy about the sudden comeback after watching its MV, as fans pointed out various problems rooted in it.

First, the fandom complained about its rushed quality, making it look "cheap" as per reviews. Second, while it is a "surprise" drop, fans complained that the Starship marketing team didn't make any effort to tease the collab on SNS, causing the slow engagement to the MV.

Lastly, while it was originally over 3 minutes, DIVEs raised their brows as the label slashed over 40 seconds from the song to fit the trending 2-minute song length.

On YouTube, comments criticizing Starship poured out such as:

  • "Starship, why aren't you promoting this masterpiece?"
  • "Starship, what are you thinking? You have a golden group with IVE and keep wasting their potential with a lack of promotion. It's unacceptable that songs like 'Supernova Love' go unnoticed just because you don't put in the effort to push them. 'Supernova Love,' a gem of a song!"
  • "Seriously though starship's marketing team is so bizarre that this song didn't even get a single promotion post out of Twitter not even an announcement, this masterpiece deserved much more."
