What do IVE‘s Jang Wonyoung, TWICE‘s Sana, aespa‘s Karina, and ILY‘s Wonhee have in common?
They’re K-Pop’s hottest “visuals,” known for their gorgeousness all around. And it seems this holds true not only in South Korea but also in Japan. The quartet, nicknamed “Jang-Sa-Ka-Won,” was named “the four K-Pop faces” that Japanese teenagers most aspire to have as of 2024.
In November, LIP, a beauty application by Japan’s AppBrew, conducted a survey titled “The Face You Want To Have Right Now.”
A total of 2,046 participants in their teens through 40s answered, revealing that, among Japanese teenagers, K-Pop girl group idols Jang Wonyoung, Sana, Karina, and Wonhee had the “most desired faces.”
In 2023, for the same survey, Japanese teens picked Jang Wonyoung, Karina, and NMIXX’s Sullyoon. LIP commented, “Following last year’s dominance by Korean idols taking the top 3 spots, it’s clear that there is a strong admiration for Korean idols among teenagers.”
It seems that teenagers of this generation admire ‘cuteness.’ The current trend of sharing unedited photos, particularly among Gen Z, may have influenced this—as teens find highlighting features such as large eyes, clear and flawless skin, and other facial traits to be key points of beauty.
