Here’s an exclusive interview with Jang ShinAe, the Executive Producer at Studio Dragon, who planned and oversaw the entire production of “Our Unwritten Seoul”.
Can you walk us through your filmography at Studio Dragon?
I joined Studio Dragon in 2019 as a career hire, and since then, I’ve planned and produced around ten titles, including “Flower of Evil”, “Behind Every Star”,”A Bloody Lucky Day”, “The Auditors”, “Love Your Enemy”, and more recently, “Second Shot of Love” and “Our Unwritten Seoul”, which both aired this year.
What drew you to produce?
At first, I was intrigued by the whimsical premise of twin sisters swapping lives—it felt light-hearted and fun. But as I continued reading, I was deeply moved by how the story evolves into a touching narrative about understanding one another and eventually learning to love oneself through the experience of living someone else’s life. It made me laugh and cry while reading it alone, and I found a great deal of comfort in its message.
“Our Unwritten Seoul” tells a modest story about ordinary, imperfect people doing their best to get by. But that simplicity is what gives it emotional power—it invites viewers to look inward, without pretense or judgment. In a world where we are constantly pushed to be perfect and fight for survival, I felt this drama could offer warmth and kindness to those who are hard on themselves. I hoped it would resonate widely and bring comfort to many.

As a producer, you must have had many discussions with the writer and director. What was the shared creative vision, and what challenges, if any, did you face in aligning your perspectives?
Even with the same script, a drama’s tone can vary significantly depending on direction and performance. In the case of “Our Unwritten Seoul”, the writer had a clear creative vision, which made it easy for the director and the production team to align around faithfully bringing that vision to life. Rather than pushing for changes, we focused on enhancing the emotional texture from the script with thoughtful direction and a refined visual style to help viewers immerse themselves fully. The actors’ stellar performances also played a crucial role in completing the project.
I believe the strong result came from the team’s unwavering commitment to quality—everyone involved, from writer to director to actors, held themselves to a high standard throughout the process.

The drama has received positive responses not only in Korea but globally as well. What are your thoughts on this?
In today’s oversaturated content landscape, I often reflect on what makes a “good drama.” And I’ve come to believe that a story told with sincerity—without relying on sensationalism or extravagant visuals—can touch people across cultures.
Honestly, because the story is so understated, I wasn’t expecting an overwhelming response, even if it was considered well-made. That’s why I’ve been both surprised and incredibly grateful to see such positive feedback from audiences of all ages, both domestically and overseas. Sometimes I even imagine what local remakes of “Our Unwritten Seoul” might look like around the world.

Could you share what projects you’re currently working on?
“Our Unwritten Seoul” was a heartfelt project created with the hope of offering emotional healing through a small, quiet story. Now, I’m working on projects that aim to take on new creative challenges.
Coming up in the second half of this year, we’ll be launching “The Manipulated”, original series on Disney plus. We also have several exciting projects slated to begin filming early next year, “Men Of The Harem”(working title), “100 days of lies”(working title), “The Great Bang OkSoo”‘(working title). In addition to these, we’re continuously developing a diverse range of stories to create high-quality content that can resonate with audiences both in Korea and around the world.
