Teddy is known as the hitmaker behind 2NE1 and BLACKPINK's success, but fans seem frustrated about the poor reception of his two girl groups MEOVV and IZNA. Has he lost his touch?

Teddy, the founder of THEBLACKLABEL, found himself on the hot seat due to his "flopping" girl groups. In the past, the producer was famous as the "genius" behind BIGBANG, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK's greatest hits while he was still under YG Entertainment.

However, after officially separating his label's management from its parent company, he faced continuous backlash after the lackluster launch of his girl groups, MEOVV and IZNA.

Starting with the first-ever female team, MEOVV initially gained high expectations thanks to its popular members like Ella Gross, who grew to fame as "Little Jennie." But since their debut in September and comeback in November, the quintet failed to create a hit, compared to their rival fifth-gen group, ILLIT.

IZNA, who also became a hot topic before its debut, failed to attract public fans' love after presenting their debut stage at the 2024 MAMA AWARDS. Viewers deemed the song and its concept unfit for them, considering their outstanding skills and visuals.

Although both groups aren't lacking in talents, charms, and personality, their "frustrating" discographies so far are holding them back from having more supporters.

The K-Media outlet Ten Asia then criticized Producer Teddy and questioned if he's already losing his hitmaking power, given that both groups are not showing up on any music charts.

The first factor fans are looking at why this happened was due to Teddy's "rash" decision to debut two groups in a row.

The outlet wrote:

"Some say that the quality of the songs has dropped because Teddy, who has never produced two groups at once and has a long cycle of releasing new songs, is in charge of two groups at the same time."

Another reason is the "outdated" sophisticated concepts Teddy is pushing.

"It's time to take a look at what kind of song style the public expects from a producer called 'Teddy' and what kind of song atmosphere suits each group, and start reorganizing."
