Red Umbrella (from Parallel / Rainbow – 2017)
This is such a burst of summer energy. It’s the closest GFriend’s music ever got to bossa nova, yet it also pulls in a hearty dose of disco. The track is on the lighter side of their discography, though that’s by design. Its splashy arrangement (that brass!) and airy vocal performance join forces to forge a sound akin to a fresh summer breeze. As usual, Yuju’s powerful tone keeps the song from floating away entirely. This doesn’t feel like a definitive GFriend hit, but it’s such a welcome addition to their catalog.
