Sunshine (from LOL – 2016)
Sunshine serves a purpose on LOL, but it’s not the kind of song I’m likely to go back to on its own. It’s one of the album’s lower-energy moments, offering a subdued singalong over swinging percussion and piano. As far as slower tracks go, this is definitely to my liking in the sense that it’s melodically focused and has some nice vocal interplay. The girls’ voices sound so young here, but that’s part of the song’s charm. If they were known as the group of “powerful innocence” at the time, this swings all the way toward “innocence.” For what it is, it’s quite nice.
