K-Pop CEO Found Guilty Of Assaulting Idol, “Ridiculous” Fine Sparks Outrage

A former executive of the agency behind K-Pop group Omega X has been found guilty of assaulting member Jaehan during their U.S. tour in 2022, but the court’s decision on the amount she was fined has sparked massive outrage among fans.

According to recent reports, the CEO was fined a total of ₩500,000 KRW (about $361 USD).

The incident took place on October 22, 2022, after a concert in Los Angeles. According to court records, the now-former executive grabbed Jaehan by the hood of his shirt near a hotel elevator, pulling him so forcefully that he fell to the ground. The reason? He allegedly didn’t thank her properly after the show.

Throughout the trial, the CEO denied the charges, claiming she was merely “disciplining” the idol and only briefly grabbed his clothing. However, the court rejected this defense after reviewing video evidence filmed by a fan and testimony from Jaehan, other group members, and staff. The judge stated that the CEO showed no remorse and made no attempt to apologize to the victim.

Despite the ruling, many feel the punishment doesn’t reflect the seriousness of the offense. In court, Jaehan shared that he was suffering from panic symptoms at the time and lost his balance when pulled from behind. His account was deemed credible and consistent with the video evidence.

Adding to the controversy, A is also under investigation for sexually harassing six members of Omega X during their overseas schedules. That case has been forwarded to prosecutors with a recommendation for indictment.

Omega X first revealed the abuse in a press conference held in November 2022, where they accused their former agency of assault, verbal abuse, forced drinking, and sexual misconduct. The group has since won their contract termination and a damages lawsuit.
