The legal battle surrounding actor Kim Soo Hyun has taken a new turn after Kim Se Ui, the head of the YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute, was indicted over allegations involving false claims about the actor's private life.
On June 23, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office indicted Kim Se Ui on charges including defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act, violations related to sexual crime laws, and stalking allegations.
Kim Se Ui had previously made claims through YouTube and other online platforms that Kim Soo Hyun was involved in a relationship with the late actress Kim Sae Ron while she was a minor. He also alleged that pressure from Kim Soo Hyun's side over financial issues was connected to her death, Koreaboo reported.
Authorities said the investigation found concerns that some materials shared online were edited in a misleading way and spread without proper fact-checking. Kim Se Ui also faced accusations of sharing private photos of Kim Soo Hyun without permission and threatening to release more materials unless the actor gave a public apology.

Kim Se Ui denied the allegations, but the court approved his arrest warrant after considering concerns about possible evidence destruction or escape. Police previously requested the warrant after determining that the videos were allegedly created and distributed despite awareness that the claims could be false.
The case has also affected Kim Soo Hyun's possible return to entertainment. The actor had stepped away from public activities after the controversy damaged his image and caused several projects and advertisements to be delayed.
Recent developments have brought new attention to Kim Soo Hyun's comeback plans. According to KoreaTimes, he is expected to film an advertisement in July for Philippine fashion brand Bench, marking his first official activity since the controversy began.
However, even with the investigation moving forward, Kim Soo Hyun still faces a difficult road. While some questions around the accusations have changed, rebuilding public trust may take time. For a celebrity whose career depends heavily on public support, clearing legal issues is only one part of returning to the spotlight.
The actor's agency previously expressed gratitude to supporters who stood by him during the investigation. The company said it appreciated those who waited for the legal process before making judgments.
