Kim Sae Ron’s aunt claimed that the company initially tried to ask Kim Sae Ron to pay ₩20.0 billion KRW (about $13.7 million USD) in penalty fees. They claimed that they would take care of everything for her to hasten the settlement process. The huge amount raised doubts in Kim Sae Ron’s aunt’s mind, and she quickly tried to question the company about their calculations, only to be shut down. Later, they changed their quote to ₩700 million KRW (about $480,000 USD) and paid it off for Kim Sae Ron, claiming that she need not pay it back. In 2024, they sent her a legal notice to ask for the money. Eventually, Kim Sae Ron passed away in the same year, having been found dead in her own apartment.
