In the K-pop world, many of the songs we know today were originally meant for different artists.
Some examples include I.O.I’s “Very Very Very,” which was originally meant for TWICE, and IVE’s “Love Dive,” which was originally for Sunmi!
Recently, an online community board garnered much attention as netizens listened to the original version of f(x)’s “Hot Summer” for the first time.
It turns out that this song was originally for Girls’ Generation! The demo version of the song was leaked around 2018 and gave off different vibes from the song we know today.
However, most Korean netizens who listened to it for the first time were glad that the song ended up with f(x) as they felt it suited them better.
- “The lyrics are so cringe, I can’t listen to them for over a minute.”
- “What’s with the lyrics?”
- “They are singing it to deep with lyrics like that.”
- “‘Hot Summer’ is such an f(x) song. They did a good job changing the beat of the song.”
- “Changing the beat made the song much better.”
- “‘My sexy eyes’…I can’t listen to it after those lyrics.”
- “I can’t listen to it after the ‘be suitably greedy’ part…”
- “Jessica matches the song though…if this song went to Girls’ Generation, it would’ve ended up as a random b-side track.”
- “I love the original song..interesting how this can sound so different.”
- “This just shows how important music directing is. If they had done it differently, I’m sure they would’ve kept the song.”
