KPop Demon Hunters is an animated action-comedy from Sony Pictures Animation that fuses the glitz of K-pop with supernatural thrills. Set in a sleek, alternate version of Seoul, the story centers on an internationally famous girl group who lead a secret double life—performing as pop idols by day and fighting off demonic threats by night. Directed by Maggie Kang (The LEGO Ninjago Movie) and Chris Appelhans (Wish Dragon), the film offers a fresh mix of high-energy action, Korean folklore, sisterhood, and the dazzling world of K-Pop.
We follow the trio from Huntrix as they fight demons, save fans, and protect the Earth.
Amongst the three, there’s also the main character of the movie, Rumi.
When a curious fan of the flick voiced out their question about the inspiration for Rumi, art director Celine Dahyeu Kim, who worked on KPop Demon Hunters, stepped up to reply. A fan named Jane compared Rumi to BLACKPINK‘s Jennie, especially from “Kill This Love” era. The semblance is uncanny, with both sporting dragon braids, heavy eyeliner, and a high-neck shirt.
