In 2025, HYBE was hit with major backlash after it was announced that some of the idols would become members of the Recording Academy, including members of SEVENTEEN, LE SSERAFIM, and TXT.
“Payola” Recent Announcement Regarding Multiple HYBE Artists Sparks Criticism
On July 14, it was announced that 20 artists and personnel from JYP Entertainment, including all the members of TWICE and Stray Kids had become members of the Recording Academy.

It sparked major backlash from netizens.
Some called out the hypocrisy of K-Pop fans, pointing out that while HYBE got “payola” claims for six idols making it, when all the members from two groups were announced, it didn’t seem like an issue. They relayed that it seems to be HYBE groups that get hate for any decision just because of the company.
I remember y'all were camping and dragging 6 hybe idols joined grammys members but y'all went silent with 20 newly idolz added not from hybe. Ok the selective standard is insane 💀💀 https://t.co/1SLtEdzeuB
