The sexualization of minors in the K-Pop idol industry has become a throbbing concern for fans worldwide, prompting them to be more vigilant than ever before. So, when the internet saw a 17-year-old girl group member carrying out a sensual solo dance routine at her group’s concert, backlash followed quickly.

BABYMONSTER’s Chiquita, the idol in question, recently went viral after a clip of her performing Fifth Harmony’s “Worth It” at her group’s Choom World Tour concert in Seoul.

Netizens’ focus, however, was not on how well the BABYMONSTER member performed, but on the fact that YG Entertainment was pushing such a sexualized image on a minor idol. Many found this performance, as well as the overall marketing image of BABYMONSTER, disturbing.
