Yoon Jong-bin reunites with Netflix for The Generals (WT), a gripping political drama that follows the calculated ascent of a man who has long operated in the shadow of absolute power.
Known for acclaimed works like The Unforgiven and The Spy Gone North, as well as the global hit Narco-Saints, Yoon brings his signature precision and character-driven storytelling to a darker exploration of modern Korean history. This time, he delves into the contradictions of power through the story of Roh Tae-woo—a lifelong second-in-command who presents himself as ordinary while quietly maneuvering behind the scenes beside dictator Chun Doo-hwan.
At the center is Roh’s strategic navigation of a complex web of allies, rivals, and opportunists as he inches closer to ultimate authority. It’s a story not just of ambition, but of survival within rigid hierarchies—a recurring theme in Yoon’s filmography.
Son Suk Ku takes on the role of Roh Tae-woo, offering a layered portrayal of a man often overshadowed by history. Opposite him, Ha Jung Woo plays Chun Doo-hwan, the powerful and controversial figure at the height of a military dictatorship. Their dynamic—former military academy classmates bound by ambition and tension—forms the emotional and political core of the story.
The cast expands with Ji Chang Wook as Heo Hak-seong, a junior officer who becomes a persistent threat to Roh, alongside Hyun Bong-sik as a loyal friend and Seo Hyun Woo as a trusted aide navigating the shifting tides of power.
Backed by production houses Moonlight Film and Sanai Pictures, The Generals (WT) promises a tense, character-rich portrayal of ambition, loyalty, and the cost of stepping out from the shadows.
The film will stream exclusively on Netflix.
