Netizens have called out the 2024 MAMA Awards for allegedly rigging one of the highest awards.
This year, MAMA featured four grand prizes or daesangs meant to highlight the best of that category. Awards for “Album Of the Year,” “Artist Of The Year,” “Fans’ Choice Of The Year,” and “Song Of The Year” were given across the last two days of the event.
“Song Of The Year” was awarded to aespa for “Supernova,” a track that undeniably was a viral and well-performing hit. However, two fandoms have contested the “Song Of The Year” category, aiming their criticism at MAMA and not the group.

The initial complaints for the “Song Of The Year” nominees began after the category was announced. Nominees included aespa for “Supernova,” BIBI for “Bam Yang Gang,” IU for “Love Wins All,” ILLIT for “Magnetic,” and NewJeans for “How Sweet.”
Fans of LE SSERAFIM questioned how the group was not included in the list of nominees, as the track “Perfect Night” was released during the time frame for songs to receive a nomination.
LE SSERAFIM | Source Music“Song Of The Year” was decided through a mixture of percentages based on judging evaluation (40%) and song streaming/downloads (60%, with a 40% domestic/20% global split).
Early predictions predicted “Perfect Night” would be nominated due to its’ performance worldwide, leaving many fans surprised when it was not. These same complaints have resurfaced following the announcement of the winner.

The second group believed to have been “robbed’ in this category was ILLIT.
