The K-Pop world just hit a dramatic pause. NJZ, formerly known as NewJeans, announced a temporary cessation of all music activities, a move enforced by a recent court ruling.
Delivering the news with palpable emotion during their ComplexCon Hong Kong performance, the group emphasized that this wasn’t a choice made lightly, but a necessary step in their ongoing legal battle.
“We’ve decided to suspend our activities for now following the ruling. It wasn’t an easy choice, but it was necessary,” the five-member group shared at the end of their set at ComplexCon in Hong Kong on Sunday.
The announcement follows Friday’s ruling by the Seoul Central District Court, which granted an injunction to ADOR, the group’s agency, blocking the members from independently signing advertising deals or pursuing solo music projects. The court reaffirmed ADOR’s authority over NJZ, stating there was no clear evidence of contractual violations by the agency.
As a result, NJZ cannot proceed with any music activities without ADOR’s approval.
“We knew from the start this would be tough,” Minji remarked. “But we’ll keep expressing our views while respecting the legal process. We have no regrets.”
Hyein echoed this stance, adding, “Some might think staying with ADOR would’ve been the easier path, but for us, this was about self-protection. We believe we’ll come back stronger and stand by our decision.”
Before their hiatus, NJZ performed their latest track, Pit Stop, during their Hong Kong appearance, leaving fans hopeful for their eventual return.
