Quick Reviews: JENNIE delivers a rather drab “Mantra” to the masses

It’s pretty crazy that it’s been six years since “Solo“, but BLACKPINK‘s Jennie is finally back with “Mantra“, which is finally her own comeback that’s not a featuring or collab or special single.

Well, I don’t have a ton to say about it cause there isn’t a ton to say. Because it’s JENNIE and because of the lyrics (I guess?), I could see it going viral on TikTok and what not, and that’s what it appears to be aiming for. Still, my main problem is there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot to it other than the repeated hook. The more vocal-intensive second verse is the high point, but then it just mostly dryly repeats the hook until an instrumental finish (eight writers on this? uh, wow) It’s a short song that feels even shorter than it actually is because of this, like I’m listening to a teaser or something. It’s pretty drab overall on repeats, but if the hook appeals to you then it could work, I suppose.
