I guess carrying over from aespa’s Karina getting into trouble for posting a bunch of red and right-wing dogwhistles, the latest celeb who has had to issue a statement is rapper Beenzino. Recently he shared a post with a bunch of red-colored albums and a caption that highlighted the word “red”.
Earlier on May 29, Beenzino posted several photos on his personal Instagram account showing various red-colored items including clothing and a donut filled with red cream along with the caption, “World BuREDgundy Day.”
People also interpreted this as a political stance, and he released a statement to deny it.
I sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable because of the post I uploaded today.
There was absolutely no political intention behind it. I simply wanted to share some peaceful moments I spent with my family a few days ago, as well as some time in my studio, because I was in a good mood this morning.
However, I now realize that posting during the early voting period could have led to misunderstandings, and I admit that I was not careful enough about the timing.
I always value healthy communication with my diverse fans.
For that reason, I also feel disappointed in myself about today’s post and recognize that it was lacking.
The post has now been deleted, and from now on, I will be more thoughtful and cautious with everything I share.
As many have pointed out, a bunch of celebrities have gone to extremes to not take a political stance this week (1/2/3), and while it does seem insane to have to take these measures, I guess this is the societal expectation during this period, especially due to the current right-wing party being the one who attempted the coup.
As I’ve said, nothing with celebs, especially successful ones, would surprise me in this regard. Though given the demographics of their audience, declaring themselves right-wingers (really any politics, but especially this) is unlikely to help them monetarily in the big picture, and the motivations of public figures are usually most reliable through that lens. But hey, maybe they just really felt uniquely motivated to out themselves this time or something, who knows.
