Remembering Han Jisung, The Idol Who Passed Away Under Suspicious Circumstances

The late Han Jisung, who promoted under the name Seo I in the group B.Dolls, passed away seven years ago today.

Han Jisung debuted in 2010 as a member of the group B.Dolls, performing under the stage name Seo I. She later transitioned to acting and gained recognition through various dramas.

In March 2019, while continuing her career, Han Jisung announced her marriage, but tragically died two months later.

Han Jisung died in a mysterious drunk driving accident at around 3:50 a.m. on May 6, 2019. She was 28 years old.

At the time, Han Jisung stopped her car in the second lane of the three-lane one-way Seoul-bound section near the interchange on the Incheon International Airport Highway, got out, and was subsequently hit and killed by a taxi and an SUV following behind.

Questions about her death persist. The words of her husband, Mr. A, who was a passenger at the time, raised further doubts. In police questioning, A stated he urgently used a nearby flower bed for the restroom, found the accident afterward, and said he did not know why his wife stopped in the second lane of the three lanes.

Three days after the accident, YTN 24 released the black box footage of the incident in which Han Jisung died. The footage, shot from a vehicle in the first lane, shows Han Jisung getting out of the driver’s seat, bending over next to the trunk, while her husband, who got out on the passenger side, runs across the road toward the right guardrail. A vehicle driving in the third lane slows after seeing Han Jisung’s car, but a taxi behind tries to dodge and ends up colliding with Han Jisung’s car.

The autopsy revealed Han Jisung’s blood alcohol level at the time was at the license cancellation threshold, and the cause of death was multiple injuries. The husband, who was in the passenger seat, was sent to prosecution on charges of aiding drunk driving but was not indicted.

On the seventh anniversary of Han Jisung’s death, who passed away in a drunk driving accident two months after her wedding, the sorrow remains.
