The success of a 5th generation girl group has sparked a debate about their true popularity.

YOUNG POSSE is a 5-member girl group under DSP Media and Beats Entertainment that debuted in October 2023. The lineup consists of Sunhye, Yeonjung, Jiana, Doeun, and Jieun.
On August 14, YOUNG POSSE released their new “FREESTYLE” music video, which became an overnight success, racking up millions of views within a few short days. It currently has 10.7 million views, 66,000 likes, and 4,041 comments on YouTube.
In a recent Reddit post entitled “Are YOUNG POSSE’s music video views rigged?,” one user sparked a conversation about YouTube views being considered a marker for K-Pop groups’ success. They pointed out “something strange” about YOUNG POSSE’s music video, regarding its comments to views ratio.
So I noticed something strange with Young posse’s recent music video. They’re still rookies and not that well-known yet, but when the MV dropped the views started escalating really fast. I think it reached around 10 million in about 4 days
Here’s the weird part: once it hit 10M, the counter basically froze. It’s been stuck there ever since, which makes me wonder are the views fake?
On top of that, the engagement feels off ;there are only about 4,000 comments, and the likes also seem suspicious.

Some users suspect that YOUNG POSSE and other K-Pop groups did not rack up their views organically, but rather through views and ad space (e.g, ensuring that the video shows up at the top of YouTube’s search results) that their agencies paid for.

Like many social media platforms, including TikTok, YouTube allows users to purchase ad campaigns to boost their views, increase their following, and drive engagement. Users can customize each ad campaign by selecting the duration, goal, and more.

Some users also named groups, other than YOUNG POSSE, with overall views that they suspect of being inflated with ad views, such as BABY MONSTER and izna.
