The investigation into the sexual harassment of BTS member Jin last year has a new development.

According to the Songpa Police Station in Seoul, a Japanese woman in her 50s, referred to as Ms. A, has been sent to prosecution for kissing Jin on his cheek without his consent during a public event last year. She has been charged under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act for committing sexual assault in a crowded public place.
Ms. A is accused of sexually harassing Jin during the 2024 Festa event in June last year, when Jin held a “fan hug” event a month after his military discharge. ARMYs were left horrified when a fan violated the event protocol and planted a kiss on Jin’s cheek while hugging him on stage. A netizen filed a complaint with the police after the incident, leading to an investigation.

Since Ms. A had already left for Japan, Korean police worked jointly with Japan’s Interpol and booked Ms. A as a suspect, demanding her attendance for questioning. But the investigation was suspended in March this year, in accordance with investigation rules.

However, the probe was resumed after Ms. A entered Korea recently and voluntarily appeared at her questioning.
While Ms. A will be forwarded to the prosecution for investigation and indictment, another individual, identified as “B,” who committed the same crime at the same event, still remains untraced by the police.
