W Korea’s annual “Love Your W” charity event — long promoted as a campaign to support breast cancer awareness — has become the cause of public outrage.

The party sparked frustration over what many netizens see as misplaced priorities and performative philanthropy.

The event, often attended by South Korea’s biggest stars, has been criticized for resembling a luxury party rather than a charity campaign.

Videos shared online showed attendees drinking, dancing, and celebrating late into the night, with little visible connection to the supposed cause. The choice of music and atmosphere, described by many as “tone-deaf” for an awareness event, only fueled the backlash.

Adding to the controversy, many were stunned to learn how little the event has raised over its two-decade history.

According to W Korea’s own website, the Love Your W campaign has donated a cumulative ₩1.10 billion KRW (about $774,000 USD) since its launch twenty years ago. The funds reportedly supported breast health programs, medical checkups, and treatment assistance for low-income women — yet the total amount left many questioning how such a high-profile event could generate so little.

“Love Your W” is one of the largest charity events in Korea, organized by W Korea magazine. Through its gala dinners and parties, the event raises funds to support the Korea Breast Health Foundation and helps cover the cost of screenings and treatments for women and low-income individuals through participatory campaigns.

Over the past twenty years, the campaign has donated a total of ₩1.1 billion KRW and provided around 500 readers with opportunities to receive specialized health screenings for women.

Following the 2025 party held yesterday, fans argue that the gala has strayed far from its original purpose, accusing organizers of using breast cancer awareness as a promotional backdrop for luxury sponsors and celebrities.

finding out w korea has raised a Grand Total of 1.1b won ($775k) across the 20 whole years theyve held this event LMFAO just absolutely useless 😭 https://t.co/xHyzqo3AJa

the Bulgari owner (who was also there) has a net worth of $1.3 billion, and the average annual donation from this event is about $35k. this is just another party for the rich and privileged that has nothing to do with breast cancer awareness, just shameless https://t.co/E6GiYhdQ8Y

The lack of visible references to breast cancer or survivors at the event only deepened public skepticism, with many suggesting the night served more as a networking opportunity than a charitable endeavor.

Not one pink ribbon on sight, no comments on the main topic wich is allegedly "BREAST CANCER AWARNESS", not even a single mention about patients or survivors. Pure performative charity and hypocrisy in fancy clothing. 🙄 https://t.co/Z2kqhX6HOE

genuinely curious bc this just looks like a party for celebrities but was any breast cancer awareness really done at the event? did ppl donate money? were professionals on the subject invited? did patients have the opportunity to speak and tell their stories (if they wanted to)? https://t.co/sHhrLRG5Pm
