Song Review: LE SSERAFIM – Made My Night

Three years ago, LE SSERAFIM released Perfect Night, a collaboration with the video game series Overwatch that became a massive hit for them. Now, they’ve back with another collaboration — albiet in a very different genre. Made My Night opts for an energetic club sound, further adding to the resurgence of dance music in K-pop. Unsurprisingly, I’m much more moved by a good dance beat than a subdued, made-for-streaming-in-the-background bop. So far, K-pop’s foray back into so-called “recession pop” has been heavy on the sing-talk and short on melody. Made My Night pulls us slightly toward the latter and should be seen as a welcome babystep in the right direction. Its repeating brass riff is a tried and true club favorite, giving the track a very European sheen. Overall, the production is uncluttered and generic but gets the job done. It’s fun, energetic and insistent. Melodically, Made My Night centers around a simple, instantly memorable hook. It’s nothing earth-shattering or even exciting, but will make for plenty of successful dance challenges and short-form content.
