When last we heard from POW, they were interpolating the chorus of Avril Lavigne’s Girlfriend to middling effect, diluting that song’s power with too many overused K-pop tropes. Now they’re back with a special digital single that’s much more of a stripped back affair. If this month was delivering new K-pop comebacks with any regularity, I probably wouldn’t cover this song at all. It doesn’t exactly scream “huge comeback single,” after all.
Instead, Gimme Love is subdued and pretty. The guys croon over acoustic guitar, sounding as if they could be performing in the corner of a coffee shop. It’s a nice counterpoint to their more bombastic material and showcases their vocals well, but without any personal connection to the group the song is simply pleasant. It would make a nice late-album b-side.
