Songs that sound like SWEETUNE but aren’t actually produced by SWEETUNE

1 day ago 9

How’s that for a very Bias List specific title of a post? The thing is, after a very long drought, we’re on the verge of our first Sweetune-produced title track in many, many months with the release of BBGirls’ new single on the 15th!! Before that, I’ve got a bit of an unusual playlist for you — inspired by the blog’s own comments section.

As most of you already know, Sweetune are my favorite K-pop producers. They haven’t been consistently active for years, but when they do make a return it’s usually with a total banger. If you’re reading this, you probably also know that these guys have a very identifiable sound, including the way they arrange vocals, the synth textures they use and their marriage of electric guitar and brisk dance beats. It’s gotten to the point where I can spot a Sweetune track a mile away before I even know they’re involved.

Because their sound is so specific, there really aren’t a ton of other songs that sound exactly like them. However, I did my best to compile a short list of tracks so Sweetune-coded they might even fool me. I’m sure I missed a ton (I barely even dipped my foot into J-pop), since I mainly relied on music I’ve written about on the blog. So in my dream scenario, you’d all comment with dozens more Sweetune sound-alikes and together we’ll build our own “generic brand Sweetune” playlist!
