Starship’s New Boy Group IDID Pre-Debuts With ‘STEP IT UP’, Launching Bold Musical Journey

IDID, the new boy group from MONSTA X and IVE’s agency Starship Entertainment, drops their pre-debut single ‘STEP IT UP‘ today, offering a dynamic glimpse into their musical identity ahead of their official debut this September.

Formed through the audition survival show “Debut’s Plan“, the seven-member act — Jang YongHoon, Kim MinJae, Park WonBin, Chu YooChan, Park SeongHyeon, Baek JunHyuk, and Jeong SeMin is Starship’s first boy group in about five years. Their name, IDID (short for “I did it”). reflects a self-driven mindset and determination to succeed on their own terms.

Their first track ‘STEP IT UP’ delivers an assertive message of individuality and ambition, set to a high-teen hip-hop sound powered by 808-heavy beats and bold rap. Co-written by acclaimed producer Dem Jointz — known for work with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Jenni, aespa, and NCT 127 — the track exudes fierce energy and a free-spirited tone that signals IDID’s unique direction.

The group defines their sonic identity as #ClassicHip, a blend of refined hip-hop, youthful emotion, and classic K-Pop performance. Their music pursues a balance of freshness and nostalgia, underpinned by themes of romance, growth, and freedom.

Prior to this release, IDID gained attention with ‘Blooming CROWN‘, a performance piece from “Debut’s Plan” that they later showcased on Korean music programs. Their polished stages and strong fan response have already positioned them as a performance-forward rookie act.

Beyond music, the group has built strong fan connections through the YouTube series ‘Fly High! IDID!‘, offering an intimate look at their personalities and pre-debut experiences. They also joined the global fan platform Berriz, where they’ve been actively engaging with international fans.

Their upcoming debut EP “I did it.” will be released on September 15, accompanied by a debut showcase at YES24 Live Hall in Seoul. ‘STEP IT UP’ will be featured on the album, alongside new tracks that expand on teaser keywords like “Ice,” “Blue,” “Sunglitter,” “Water,” “Goodvibes,” “Fresh,” and “Energy.”
