Successful Idol-Turned-Actress Reveals A Heartbreaking “Secret” She Kept From The Viewers

In celebration of wrapping up 100 episodes of KBS‘s K-Drama Queen’s House, T-ARA‘s Ham Eunjung (also known as Hahm Eun Jung) sat down for an interview about taking on the role of intense and passionate Kang Jae In.

In the interview, Ham Eunjung revealed that an old injury from her K-Pop idol days had come back. She explained she tried to keep it a secret from the viewers, even when she had to shoot about 15 episodes of Queen’s House while on crutches.

Q. You hurt your knee. Did that happen during filming?

Ham Eunjung: About a month ago, I tore a ligament. It was an old injury from my T-ARA days that came back. My knee ligament tore again, so I had to shoot nearly 15 episodes while using crutches. I also recently went to Mongolia for a T-ARA concert, too, in this condition. We even did a 30-minute performance. But I tried to hide it as much as possible; even if I had to sit down on stage, I didn’t want people to notice. I didn’t want the viewers to see me and think, ‘Oh, she’s the one who got hurt.’ I thought that would distract them from becoming fully immersed in the show. Thankfully, the production team was very supportive and helped me out a lot.

The idol-turned-actress added, now that the long stretch of working on Queen’s House is over, she “can finally rest”—and how she finds herself “dozing off all the time.”

Q. How do you feel now that the drama has ended?

Ham Eunjung: I really loved working on this series. So, while my body feels relieved that I can finally rest, I had so much fun playing Jae In that it’s hard to accept I won’t be able to step into her shoes anymore. A part of me wants to keep living Jae In’s next chapter. Emotionally, it’s bittersweet, but physically I feel good. Now that the tension has finally lifted, I find myself dozing off all the time.

In 2024, Ham Eunjung took home the “Excellence Award” for the “Daily Drama” category at the 2024 KBS Drama Awards. At the time, she was dubbed the “Queen of daily K-Dramas” for her award-winning lead role. Now, with Queen’s House earning over 11% viewer ratings, it seems the idol actress is, indeed, living up to that title!
