Imagine finding yourself trapped in a building where the longer you stay, the more you earn. How would you fare?

The trailer for The 8 Show plunges viewers into this very scenario, offering a deeper look into a high-stakes competition where time is literally money.

Set in a mysterious building divided into eight distinct floors, the series introduces a gripping narrative of eight contestants testing their endurance. Each participant is not only fighting against time but also against one another, with the potential prize money increasing with every passing second.

The players, who go by the floor that they stay on, actively think of ways to stay on the show by accumulating more time, which equals money. But when they realize that the prize money is different for each player, the unforgiving show takes a chaotic turn. With the unfair structure putting those with less at the mercy of those with more, players become divided over whether to quit or to keep playing, as they go back and forth between cooperation and betrayal.

In the series, the stairwell not only links the contestants physically but also serves as a visual metaphor for their status. Director Han Jae-rim explains, “The symbolic gesture of climbing up the stairs highlights the contrasting status among the contestants.”

Art director Lee sheds light on the deeper themes at play: “The eight players go to their assigned rooms using the stairs, mirroring the capitalism-based disparity of the societal ladder.”

As the suspense builds, the question becomes not just how long the show will go on, but at what cost? The 8 Show, with its unique blend of psychological drama and survival thriller elements, promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

The 8 Show streams on May 17, only on Netflix.
