Plenty of idol groups debut with interesting concepts, like EXO, for example, whose debut showed each member having their own super power. Other group’s concepts are less “cool” and sometimes downright offensive.

Where Are They Now? The K-Pop Group That Debuted In Blackface

There is one group that proves that there is something for everyone — even those interested in polyamory.

Japanese singer-songwriter and producer Kiyoshi Ryujin launched his very own idol group in 2014, with himself at the center.

The group, called Kiyoshi Ryujin 25 consisted of Kiyoshi, and women he referred to as his wives. Each of the women took on his last name as part of their stage names and were referred to as Wife #X.

The group first released a single titled “Will You Marry Me?,” going along with the theme of polyamory.

Kiyoshi Ryujin 25 ultimately released several singles and two albums, even opening the search for a “seventh wife” in 2015. In 2017, the group held a final concert before their disbandment.

However, in 2024, Kiyoshi Ryujin announced that the group would return with a brand new line-up of wives, all of which have previous idol experience. It is also worth noting that all of the new wives are in their 20s, and joined the group after being “proposed” to.
