The Saja Boys’ “Your Idol” Was Written With These Two K-Pop Groups In Mind

One of the most haunting and buzzworthy tracks from KPop Demon Hunters is “Your Idol,” performed by the demonic version of the fictional group, The Saja Boys. With its dark themes and eerie energy, the song has quickly captured the attention of fans.

The film’s music team collaborated with THEBLACKLABEL to craft a cinematic yet pop-forward soundscape. Alongside THEBLACKLABEL songwriters KUSH and VINCE, the project brought in well-known pop songwriter EJAE, whose past credits include hits for TWICE and aespa. EJAE, who also voices the character Rumi in the film, worked closely with writing partner Mark Sonnenblick to develop several songs for the film, including “The Huntrix Mantra,” “How It’s Done,” “Golden,” and the fan-favorite “Your Idol.”

According to EJAE in an interview with Forbes, “Your Idol” was directly inspired by EXO’s iconic tracks “MAMA” and “Obsession.” When she received the instrumental from THEBLACKLABEL and executive music producer Ian Eisendrath, the EXO influence was already baked in. That’s when EJAE leaned into the concept, helping write lyrics that reflected the twisted dynamic between idol and fan within the story.

“The Saja Boys, in their demon form, are intentionally feeding the fans’ obsession because that gives them control. That’s what being an idol can feel like—the need to be adored and worshipped. I grew up Christian, so I immediately thought about how ‘idolizing’ something is considered a sin. That tension inspired the creepy twist behind the lyrics: ‘I’ll be your Idol.’”

The result is a track that’s as addictive as it is unsettling—a perfect mirror for the film’s exploration of fame, devotion, and manipulation. Through layered production and concept-driven lyricism, “Your Idol” stands out as a chilling commentary on fandom culture and the darker side of K-Pop.
