“Time To Be Strong” Nominated For Uncaged Award At New York Asian Film Festival 2025

The New York Asian Film Festival (hereafter NYAFF) is here for its 24th edition!

Held from July 11 to 27 at the Lincoln Center in New York City, NYAFF 2025 features screenings of over 100 films as well as stage appearances by acclaimed filmmakers, international stars, and other notable guests. This year’s Korean Film Showcase features a total of 24 films, including 17 feature films and seven shorts.

On July 25 at 6 p.m. EDT, NYAFF 2025 will screen the North American premiere of “Time to Be Strong,” an intimate coming-of age drama following three fallen K-pop idols Sumin (Choi Sung Eun), Taehee (Hyun Woo Seok), and Sarang (Ha Seo Yoon) as they embark on a trip to Jeju Island.

Having won the Grand Prize at the 25th Jeonju International Film Festival, “Time to Be Strong” is nominated for the 2025 NYAFF Uncaged Award alongside “Green Wave,” “Family Matters,” “Montages of a Modern Motherhood,” “Deep in the Mountain,” “Jinsei,” “Travesty,” and “Skin of Youth.”

Director Namkoong Sun, who previously received a special mention in the Uncaged Award competition at NYAFF 2021 for her debut feature film “Ten Months,” will hold an Intro and Q&A session at the screening for “Time to Be Strong,” and all competition directors are expected to attend the festival’s Closing Night Awards Ceremony on July 27.

NYAFF’s North American premiere screening of “Time to Be Strong” will take place on July 25 at 6 p.m. KST at SVA Theatre (Beatrice Theatre).
