BEWAVE made waves in the K-Pop scene when they debuted on April 17, 2024, with their mini album ‘Be;Wave.’ This six-member group, whose ages range from 20 to 23, has quickly garnered attention for their refreshing sound and dynamic energy. BEWAVE’s name carries a special meaning: it represents the coming together of six unique individuals, each bringing their own charm to create a powerful and distinct ‘BLUE WAVE.’ Like waves that can be both strong and gentle, BEWAVE aims to introduce a new flow in the music world, resonating with fans as they begin to surf the tide of K-pop.

With their first single album ‘Be Your Wave’ released on October 10, BEWAVE is poised to make an even bigger splash. The group promises a blend of captivating melodies and fresh, youthful energy, which has already become their signature style. As they continue to carve out their place in the industry, BEWAVE’s goal is to connect with listeners on a deeper level through relatable themes and addictive beats, bringing a new wave of excitement to their growing fanbase.

In this exclusive interview, we caught up with BEWAVE to talk about their upcoming single album, their journey since debut, and what fans can expect from this exciting new chapter. Get ready to dive into the world of BEWAVE as they open up about their music, their bond as a group, and a message to their future selves!

Hi BEWAVE! It’s nice to meet you. To start, could each of you introduce yourself and tell us about your role in BEWAVE?

JIUN: Hello! I’m Jiun, the first member of BEWAVE, and I’m from Gimhae!

YUNSEUL: Hello! I’m Yunseul. I was born on the same day as Jiun but a bit later, which makes me the second member. I’m the pure visual of the group!

LENA: Hello! I’m Lena, the only foreign member of BEWAVE! I might sound like Shin-chan (a Japanese manga character) when I speak Korean, but I show a cool and charismatic side on stage!

ZENA: Hello! I’m Zena, and I’m known as the strong and dependable member of BEWAVE.

AIN: Hello! I’m Ain, bringing refreshing and pure vibes to BEWAVE!

GOWOON: Hello! I’m Gowoon from BEWAVE. I’m the team’s cute and lovable maknae!

Your first single album, ‘Be Your Wave’ will be released on October 10th. What’s the concept and message behind it?

BEWAVE: “And all these are ‘the moments’ filled with emotion.” The first single album, ‘Be your Wave,’ represents all the time we’ve spent reaching this point and the moments we continue to move forward, capturing them as a single, powerful moment.

Can you share the meaning behind the album title, ‘Be Your Wave?’ What message do you hope to convey through this release?

BEWAVE: It represents the idea that every moment we’ve experienced—joy, sadness, happiness, love, excitement, and heart-pounding emotions—has been an overwhelming one for us. With BEWAVE’s first single album, we hope to connect with all the youth out there and share these powerful, unforgettable moments through our music.

If you could describe ‘Be Your Wave’ in three emotions or feelings, what would they be?

JIUN: I believe it represents excitement, happiness, and emotion.

YUNSEUL: I think it embodies youth, empathy, and excitement.

ZENA: I would describe it as a narrative filled with excitement and the essence of youth.

What do you hope listeners will feel when they hear ‘Be Your Wave’ for the first time?

LENA: I would be really happy if listeners find themselves saying, “I want to keep listening!” after hearing our songs. The chorus of our title track, “The Road to You is So Difficult,” is very catchy, and it would be amazing if everyone sang along with that part.

AIN: When you first hear the title track, I hope your reaction is, “This song is fantastic!” And when you listen to it again, I want you to think, “I thought it was just a bright song, but it’s actually touching and relatable, evoking deep emotions.”

GOWOON: With our single album, ‘Be Your Wave,’ I hope listeners feel like they’ve experienced “a movie” or “a story” and find it emotionally moving. Additionally, I want to share and connect with all the feelings everyone experiences during this promotion.

YUNSEUL

Without giving too much of a spoiler, can you share a specific lyric from the title track that you think fans will particularly connect with?

BEWAVE: We think fans will connect with the lyrics, “I’m running hard towards you!”

Can you share a funny or memorable behind-the-scenes moment from filming your music videos for the title track?

JIUN: There were many scenes in the music video where we got splashed with water! One scene that stands out to me is when I filmed a water play scene with the other members and then immediately shot a scene where I got even wetter by myself. Since we filmed during the middle of summer, being splashed with water felt refreshing and wonderful.

ZENA: The music video featured a lot of water splash scenes, as well as many running scenes! What I remember most is how the members and the entire staff tried to hold back their laughter while watching me run. They probably thought I looked cute while running, right? Hahaha! It’s definitely not because they found it funny!

BEWAVE debuted on April 17 with the mini album ‘Be;Wave.’ What was the most memorable moment for each of you during your debut preparations?

LENA: At that time, everything was new to me, and I had a lot to learn, which made me very nervous. The moment that stands out the most is when we had a rehearsal together at the company the day before our debut showcase. I remember being so nervous that I couldn’t properly say the lines I had practiced, even though it was just a rehearsal.

AIN: I vividly remember the photoshoot for the magazine Maps before our debut. Since it was our first photoshoot and we were still preparing for our debut, we were all eager to do well. I recall that we worked hard and even fasted together to prepare for it.

ZENA: The most memorable moment for me was when I brought my parents to the company before our debut and showed them the stage for our title track, “SING!” Everyone was smiling and cheering for us, making it an unforgettable experience.

LENA

Has preparing for this comeback felt different from preparing for your debut? In what ways?

YUNSEUL: For this title track, we wanted to express the lyrics effectively, which is why the choreography incorporates many musical elements! To better convey this, we focused a lot on practicing our facial expressions as well. We worked hard to showcase various expressions of excitement by supporting each other’s acting and even asking fans about memorable moments of their youth.

GOWOON: During our debut, I was very nervous and didn’t fully grasp what it meant to debut! However, while preparing for this comeback, we felt the support of our awaiting fans, and we developed a strong desire to do well, so we worked really hard! Because of this, I think I’m feeling a bit less nervous this time compared to our debut. I can’t wait to show our fans the music and performances we’ve prepared!

Were there any particular skills or aspects of performance you focused on improving for this comeback?

JIUN: We didn’t want to disappoint our fans, and we aimed to show new listeners what our group BEWAVE (비웨이브) is all about! To achieve this, we practiced extensively in various areas, including music, performance, and emotional expression.

AIN: My goal while preparing for the title track was to effectively convey the emotions I was feeling. Therefore, even with each movement in the choreography, I made an effort to capture the meaning of the lyrics. I paid particular attention to my facial expressions and monitored them closely during our preparations.

Looking back at your journey from debut to this comeback, what are you most proud of as a group?

YUNSEUL: I feel reassured every time I see the members working hard together. It seems like we’re all supporting each other and moving forward hand in hand, which makes me proud every single day!

LENA: Our group has such positive energy that even during early morning shoots, we stay energized! It was really nice when the staff mentioned that the atmosphere was great. I also felt incredibly proud when people overseas said they enjoyed our songs!

GOWOON: When listeners tell us, “This song is really good! It’s definitely going to succeed!” it fills me with pride and motivation.

ZENA

Each member has her own charm. Can you share what unique qualities you believe you bring to the group?

JIUN: Among our members, I’m the one who jokes around the most and laughs the most! I think my charm and strength lie in keeping the team happy with my energy.

YUNSEUL: I think I have a pure and innocent appearance but with a bit of a clumsy and laid-back personality. And among our members, I’d like to be in charge of visuals (laughs)!

LENA: People often tell me I’m “cute” when I speak Korean! So, I guess I’ve naturally taken on the role of the cute one. But honestly, I’d love to hear, “You look so cool on stage!”

ZENA: As I introduced myself earlier, I’m a strong person. I might come across as cold or stern, but I try to stand firm and make the right judgments in any situation. Also, I think my charm is being the shortest among the members, which makes me cute.

AIN: I believe that I add my unique vocal tone and atmosphere to the team.

GOWOON: I think I have my own unique vocal tone and a well-built physique. I also have a lot of clumsy moments, which gives me a bit of a contrasting charm!

AIN

How would each of you describe BEWAVE’s unique color or concept?

JIUN: Our group, BEWAVE, is often described with the keyword “5th-generation pure idols.” But I believe we bring a unique twist to purity, showcasing BEWAVE’s own special charms.

YUNSEUL: We focus on the concept of “sharing moments” based on the keyword “youth,” which our audience can relate to. Our music is highly relatable and has a catchy quality that sticks with people. I think this is one of BEWAVE’s biggest charms.

LENA: Just like the meaning of BEWAVE, we aim to show a variety of sides—sometimes calm and sometimes fierce, like the changing waves. I believe that’s what defines our group’s identity.

ZENA: I think we’re a refreshing and energetic group that tells stories everyone can relate to!

AIN: What sets BEWAVE apart is that we don’t just show our pretty and glamorous side; we also openly display the honest struggles of youth, including moments of failure and setbacks.

GOWOON: BEWAVE goes beyond the traditional image of pure idols, expressing true emotions that include freshness, strength, vulnerability, and everything in between.

Imagine you’re writing a letter to your future selves five years from now. What would you want to tell yourselves about this exciting moment in your journey as BEWAVE?

JIUN: You’ve grown a lot through BEWAVE’s albums, and these albums have taught you so much. I hope you remember them and always look back on them!

YUNSEUL: You’ve endured so much and come out stronger! These moments now will one day become memories you look back on fondly. I hope future Yunseul enjoys every moment. You’ve worked hard! I’ll keep doing my best so that Yunseul can be happy in the future!

LENA: You’re surrounded by such wonderful members and living your best life, aren’t you? You made the right choice! Well done, Lena! Do you remember the moments when we worked on this album? We put so much effort into it! I hope you continue with the same mindset and keep pushing forward, cherishing those happy moments when we made this album!

ZENA: I’m so happy to have debuted with BEWAVE, and I’m genuinely enjoying every moment! I’m excited to see all the memories and stories we’ll create. How’s it going?! Are you doing well five years from now?!

AIN: As Ain of BEWAVE, you’ve laughed and cried throughout the preparation process, but every moment has been a precious memory that I never want to forget.

GOWOON: Gowoon! I know there have been tough times, but remember, the one who holds on till the end is the winner! What are you up to now, Gowoon? I bet you’ve filmed the commercials you have always dreamed of and maybe even become an MC on a music show! Haha! I think you must have a lot of fans who cherish you and BEWAVE! To the even happier Gowoon of the future—I love you!

YUNSEUL: I’m so happy that we could connect with so many of you and bring you joy through our album!
